Garnet loved adventures, so I would have the students write a story about an adventure they would like to have. I would have the students tell about something they might have found when they were little that brought them good luck.Ģ. It brought back some memories I had as a child, and it made me relate to the main character.ġ. She says the thimble is magic and tells them both that this summer she would remember as the thimble summer.

Back home, Garnet is with her brother and Eric she pulls out the silver thimble and tells Eric all the things that happened to her this summer. Toward the end of the story Garnet, her family, and friends goes to the fair, where Garnet is showing her pig at. He was a hitchhiker and had no family, so Garnet’s father allows him to stay with them and help them to build the new barn. One night they were working on building the barn when a boy, named Eric, came wondering up looking for something to eat. Garnet’s family needed to build a new barn, but did not have the funds to do it, and then one day her father got a loan in the mail from the government. That night a huge rain storm comes through, making the drought go away. Her and her brother goes out for a swim one day to cool off, which she ends up finding a silver thimble. The drought is causing their family’s farm to dry up also, Garnet’s family is having money problems. It takes place during the summertime, where there is a drought. This book is about a young girl, named Garnet, her family, and friends.
